Spraying Greens

Since we are closed on Monday's we like to take advantage of no golfers, so today we sprayed the greens.  I was asked by one of our employees today why we sprayed the greens so much. I explained to him that we are not always spraying the same chemical. We spray anything from fertilizers to insecticides to fungicides on the greens. Today we sprayed a very low rate of fertilizer. This is known as spoon feeding the greens. By spoon feeding the greens you can accomplish numerous things, but most importantly you do not slow down the greens by over fertilizing. By giving the greens very low rates of fertilizer they do not have a surge in growth, thus the green speeds are not affected.
